The University of Michigan Health System website offers basic information on the importance of reading with your child, as well as links to many useful resources for reading activities, family literacy programs and struggling readers.
International Children's Digital Library is a free online library for children's books--and not just in English! Languages include Farsi, Serbian, Turkish, Arabic, Afrikaans, Yiddish, Polish, Mongolian, Tagalog, Filipino, Swahili, Kinyawadan, Spanish, French, amongst others. Project Enlightenment offers a list of useful early literacy tips for parents. Although these tips are labeled for preschool age children, they will work with older children, as well.
